Record Preservation Section Services

The Records Preservation Section can provide the following services:

  • On site advice to solicitors and non-profit making organisations on the management, storage and care of records. *
  • Identifying material suitable for preservation as archives.
  • Advising on the correct repository for documents and providing contact details.
  • Sorting, listing and despatching records to repositories, either at the depositor's address or at the Section's office.
  • Rescuing records at risk from destruction and arranging their deposit.
  • Providing guidance leaflets giving advice on a number of archival topics.

What Will It Cost?

The RPS is a part of the British Records Association, a charity that relies on membership subscriptions and donations. Our charges are kept as low as possible, but we do need to cover costs to continue the service. Commercial organisations using the Section are required to pay a fee. Individuals and charities are encouraged to make a donation. There is no charge for rescue services - i.e. taking material in that has been salvaged from skips, etc.
